Welcome to the ISSA Los Angeles 2026 Cybersecurity Summit
Wednesday October 14, 2026 11:20am - 12:05pm PDT
Join author Kayne McGladrey for an interactive session designed for executives preparing their organizations' risk posture for 2027. The artificial wall between "cybersecurity risk" and "business risk" remains the most costly blind spot in enterprise decision-making, and it's one that boards are increasingly unwilling to tolerate. As regulatory expectations tighten and threats increase in velocity, organizations that continue treating security as a technical concern rather than a business reality will find themselves outpaced by competitors who have already made the shift.

Drawing from his book Cyber Risk is a Myth: A Business Approach to Integrated Risk Management, Kayne will read from the chapter on overcoming common challenges in the transformation journey, covering organizational resistance, resource constraints, and technical hurdles that derail integration efforts. Attendees will then work in small peer groups using the Security Integration Challenge Resolution Toolkit to diagnose real challenges from their own organizations, analyze root causes, and build resolution strategies they can take back and act on.

The session closes with attendees sharing their planned next steps and lessons from the exercise, followed by an open Q&A on the book's methodology and the author's experience writing it.

What you'll learn:
  • Why treating security risks as distinct from business risks leads to poor executive decision-making and misallocated resources
  • How to translate technical security concerns into language that resonates with boards and fellow C-suite leaders
  • How to identify and categorize the most common obstacles to integrating security with business operations
  • A structured approach to building resolution strategies with owners, timelines, and success measures

What you'll do:
  • Complete a challenge diagnostic to surface integration obstacles in your own organization
  • Work with your peers to analyze root causes and business impacts of selected challenges
  • Build a resolution strategy framework covering short-term actions, stakeholder engagement, resource requirements, and success measurement
  • Share your group's findings and planned next steps with the room
