Jennifer Cheung is a mathematician turned cybersecurity engineer with over a decade of experience in the field. Currently an Assistant Policy researcher at RAND Corporation. She holds a Master's degree in Applied Mathematics and was awarded a prestigious Fulbright Study/Research Grant in Quantum Cryptography at Aarhus University, Denmark during the 2011–2012 academic year. Her tenure as a civilian research scientist for the government provided her with deep exposure to cutting-edge technologies, including 5G communications, homomorphic encryption, and quantum computing. She holds a patent on an innovative data exfiltration detection model.
Beyond her technical contributions, Cheung founded the WiCyS (Women In Cybersecurity) San Diego Affiliate in August 2020 and was the Affiliate President for three years. She was a program co-chair for the WiCyS conference for five years. Currently, she is the Affiliate President of the Los Angeles Affiliate of WiCyS. She has been outspoken on building a more diverse and inclusive cybersecurity workforce of the future, encouraging and helping women and men to break into the field.
Cheung is now back to school at RAND School of public policy pursuing a Master of Philosophy Degree of Policy Analysis. She is an assistant policy researcher and her research interests include emerging technology and technology policy.
